Taking things (like houses) apart tells you about the people who put them together. You get to see the little tricks and shortcuts they used.
This house has been rewired twice since the original electrical installation. - How do we know? - because all three sets of wires are still there..
Why go to the trouble of removing old wires or covering them up, when they're now safe for children to play with? Just shrug and move on.
If you have a big gap to fill and a tube of silicon, why go and find something more substantial when the tube of silicon will do the job? - Even if you do need to use the whole tube. Lovely job.
Still in English mode, all of this won't do. The old wires are now, nearly, all out and appropriate methods to fill holes are being employed.
However..
We needed some lights up in the barn, I ought to have run appropriate sized cable back to a dedicated
circuit breaker, mounted a switch at the door and routed some sheathed cable clipped up neatly at close intervals.
But why go to all that trouble when a flex plugged into a wall socket and some twisted wire around a beam will get them lit?
It's a race to the bottom.
These French lads might have a head start but I'm not letting them have it all their own way!
