Le sable est dans le trou

"The sand is in the hole" sounds like one of those phrases taught in French lessons, like "La sange est dans l'arbre". Although they're good for extending your vocabulary and getting sentence construction, it's not quite clear when the actual phrase might come in useful.

Until today.

This is a rare shot of Renault without his sunglasses on properly. The trou was finally, fully dug to his satisfaction this morning and a few minutes later a big lorry full of sable turned up.

A bit of pointing and teeth sucking later we all agreed it would get through the gates but tipping would mean flicking the power supply cable out of the way which nobody thought was a good idea because the truck was brand new.

So, sable dumped around the corner and the digger and petit camion used to ferry it in.

Once that was in, a layer of coarse gravel:

And now the pipe layout has begun.

The blue pipes are set on a slope away from the house and towards the bungalow and have slots cut across them at intervals underneath, so fluid seeps out down through the gravel, then sand, then beyond I assume. If what comes out isn't fluid then it will all just clog up but maybe that never happens.

I felt a bit sorry for R. He's just spent days fighting every stubborn rock with his digger to get a big hole in the ground and within a few hours it's filled in again. Or does that explain the sunglasses?

We got to comparing differences in pipes - between UK and France. (I can tell I'm going to have to be careful what I write here.) The UK one is bigger diameter (I knew this was going to be difficult) and made of stiffer.. Start again.

The French version is a similar colour to ours but when you compare quality.. No.

Held side by side.. Stop it!

-This is harder that it looks. Oh now look what's happening, I'll give up on that and write about something easier.

Made it in and out of the decheterie without being told off once. This is a first. Monsieur scowled from inside his hut but maybe because it was cold and a bit rainy, didn't emerge. So when he couldn't see I tossed a few things into random skips for the hell of it.

Got back and almost immediately found another corner full of junk so monsieur will no doubt have his revenge.

Inside, the kitchen tiling is finished and looks good but I forgot to photograph it today. Upstairs in the bathroom I put a coat of paint over the bright flags. It's going to take quite a few more to fully cover them up.

Maybe tomorrow I'll see a monkey up a tree.
