Hot weather for a few days and shopping altered into a leisure activity. We went to Saintes for the first time, on Adam and Jo’s recommendation and it was another pleasant, provincial French town.
A manageable handful of small streets to shop in. A river to look at and walk alongside, choice of small restaurants with bargain set menus and free parking on Saturdays. Oh, and a Roman amphitheater hidden in the back streets.
Not sure how I feel about this being apparently un-celebrated but think it’s part of the French way. Anywhere in the UK and this would surely be treated with high reverence, an appropriate entry fee levied and gift shop attached. Here it looked sort of forgotten - “Ahh oui, Le Amphitheatre. Ma grandmere me dit que I’ll a always been there.”
Living with a thirteen year old girl, lesson one:-
Take her to one of the paint isles in B&Q and say “Yes, pick any colours you like, it’s your room.” and you run the risk of something like this resulting:
You be the judge.
LWa13YOG, lesson two:-
“Maisons du Monde” is a chain of interiors shops enjoyed by the girls. Three trolleys filled plus a chair carried in the hand, I’m not telling you the bill and I can’t describe the pleasure expressed on the checkout girl’s face. It’s at times like these that the van looks expensive and a small hatchback the better choice for a shopping trip but too late on this occasion.
Seems premature to be buying cushions, clocks and pictures when we’ve a bathroom in the next room, still to install but the sequencing is up for challenge on this job as we’ve already discussed.
Fast shutter speed action shot capturing the girls taking a very short break from working extremely hard.. seriously, they have been.-
