Don’t know what it is but buildings with big, open spaces have an effect when you are in them. Barns aren’t cathedrals but they have their own approachable charm that makes you want to linger.
We hoped ours would have potential but full of straw, horse poo and junk it has been smothered and really hard to unwrap. Removing the second horse box full of merde to the decheterie (undramatic for once but minor story later) suddenly opened it up to something of what it can become.
Lots of mysterious details that layer over a long history of use. Lovely.
Swallows cars easily. Even before a second floor level of storage is in place..
..Joking.
There are at least two more trailers to fill and take away before the floor is clear but what a luxury space to have use of. -We’re very lucky and it will be interesting to see how it’s use evolves this time.
Spotted a couple more ‘before and after’ photo opportunities for the record:
Decheterie story was about an old couple - her about to throw a huge lampshade into apparently the wrong skip provoked monsieur to come out of his cabin, finger wagging, “Non, non, non!”
She paused, mid throw, turned towards him, then threw it anyway. Brilliant.
He did his usual walking to the sign with the written descriptions of what’s allowed and reading it out in an exasperated voice. (I’ve had this.)
Turns out they were English, so it’s not just me.
- Better weather helps, but still, got to be happy with that after three months work..
